Abstract

Of the three notable writers of Guangxi descent, Li Feng’s works are most distinctive and most easy to label. Li’s novels can be classified into two distinct types: novels parodying historical subject matters and novels themed on actual experience, both of which embrace distinctive stylistic singularities. In novels of the first type, an analytical and experimental attitude is adopted towards figures in classics, which is characterized by the recreational consciousness of deconstruction and by the historical impulse of construction. In novels of the second type, however, the characters are all endowed with extraordinary inner passion of a sort, the appearance of whom is indicative of the great changes taken place in society in which we live.
