An effect of olanzapine in treatment of depression with anxiety symptoms

Abstract

Objective:To assess the clinical efficacy and safety of citalopram combined with low dose olanzapine in treatment of depression with anxiety symptoms. Method:68 depressive patients with anxiety symptoms were randomly divided into research group which received citalopram plus olanzapine treatment and control group which received citalopram treatment for 8 weeks.Curative effects were assessed using Hamilton depression scale (HAMD) and Hamilton anxiety scale (HAMA).Adverse reactions were assessed with treatment emergent symptoms scale (TESS). Results:The two groups showed significant score decreases on HAMD and HAMA,but the research group showed faster score drop on HAMD and HAMA and had higher effective rate than control group.There were no significant differences on TESS score between the two groups. Conclusion:Citalopram plus olanzapine is effective and safe and has better compliance in treatment of depression with anxiety symptoms.
