Small-dose olanzapine augmentation in the treatment of depression

Abstract

Objective: To explore the effects of small-dose olanzapine augmentation with S-citalopram in the treatment depression without psychotic symptoms. Method:Sixty patients with depression without psychotics symptoms were randomly assigned to S-citalopram group and S-citalopram with olanzapine group for 6 weeks.The treatment effect was assessed using Hamilton depression dcale(HAMD) and the side effect using treatment emergent symptom(TESS) at baseline and week 1,2 and 6. Results:The S-citalopram with olanzapine group showed higher efficacy and more HAMD score reduction due to the treatment than S-citalopram group.There were no significant differences in TESS between two groups. Conclusion: Ssmall-dose olanzapine with S-citalopram can augment efficacy in the treatment of depression.
