On the Negative Transfer of the Mother Tongue Culture in English Writing

Chinese students subconsciously tend to do the English writing in the Chinese mode of thinking and express themselves from the vantage point of Chinese. The mother tongue culture will in evitably exert a negative influence on the Chinese students' English writing, that is to say, negative transfer or Interference of the mother tongue culture occurs and results in errors in the written communication. An attempt is made to analyze the phenomenon and probe into its causes and solutions through three levels, namely lexicon, syntax and discourse.
