Some Reflections on the Development of West China through a Historical Review

From the 156 engineering projects in the 1950s to the implementation of the strategy of developing west China in the 1990s, New China has carried out three large-scale developments in west China. The first two were under the guidance of Chairman Mao's strategy of balanced development of local economy and played an important role in quickening the development of west China and its industry. The latest development has been under the guidance of Deng Xiao-ping Theory and carried out by the third generation of the Chinese leaders for realizing modernization. This development should have new ideas and approaches due to changed times and international situations.
