A primary report on blackfiles (Diptera: Simuliidae) in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,China

Abstract

Objective:To investigate the basic fauna and geographical distribution of blackflies in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.Methods: Immature stages of blackflies were collected from seven different representative areas of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region with conventional methods,and were reared in the lab to produce adults.After the identification of the slide and needle-fixed specimens,a list of blackfly species and a discussion were given.Results:13 species including 4 new ones from Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region were reported.Conclusion:There is a rich diversity of blackflies to show that there is a fauna character of paraearctic realm.
