Abstract
Based on the investigation of earthquake damage to elementary and middle school buildings during Wenchuan earthquake,the characteristics and causes of earthquake damage about masonry structure,frame structure and composite structure are discussed.According to the discussion,some important suggestions as to enhance seismic capacity of buildings are set forward,such as choosing the suitable layout of buildings,adopting ductile structural system and reinforcing the seismic fortification measures,etc..
