Abstract
Objective To investigate the occupational scope and develop orientation for the doctors of emergency medicine . Methods Main kinds of emergency disease and the effect of treatment for the emergency cases at the emergency department of the first affiliated hospital, Zhengzhou University from January, 2004 to December, 2006 were retrospectively analyzed. Results 116 326 cases of emergency disease were treated at the emergency department. 8321 cases of critical disease were rescued and the survival rate were 95%. 8 478 cases were admitted to different special wards while 3 624 cases were admitted to the emergency wards. Multiple-trauma, cardio-cerebra-vascular disease, acute abdomen, acute poisoning were the main kinds of admitted patients at the emergency wards. 1 082 cases were operated on at the emergency center, 16 cases died and the operative death rate was 1.5%. Conclusion The development of emergency medicine provides the chance and challenge for the doctors of emergency medicine. To master general medicine knowledge and special rescue skill may improve curing ability for emergency and critical disease.
