Comparative study of risperidone combined with buspirone in the treatment of schizophrenia

Objective To explore the efficacy and side effects of risperidone combined with buspirone in treatment of patients with schizophrenia. Methods A total of 72 patients with schizophrenia were randomly divided into study group with risperidone combined with buspirone and control group with risperidone for the treatment of 8 weeks. They were assessed with Positive and Negative Symptom Scale (PANSS),Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale (TESS) and laboratory for efficacy and side effects. Results The decreased score rate of PANSS was significant higher in study group at the 1st weekend than that in control group,while the rates had no significant differences in other weekends. The rate of side effects was 11.11% in study group and 22.22% in control group. There were no severe side effects in study group with lower dosage of risperidone. Conclusion Risperidone combined with buspirone is effective in the treatment of schizophrenia with less side effects and lower dosage of risperidone.
