Abstract
Aim: Children with chronic sinusitis or/and nasal polyps is have their particularities in clinical diagnosis and treatment process. The purpose is to discuss the operation indication and method of endoscopic sinus surgery in children,in order to raise treatment effect. Methods: In 32 cases(59 sides),children with chronic sinusitis or(and) nasal polyps underwent endoscopic sinus surgery and followed-upafter.Systematic medication and auxiliary operation had failed. We amputated the uncinate process and opened anterior ethmoid sinus(mini-FESS) and handled the serious anomalous structure of nasal cavity. Results: In more than one year follow-up,15 cases(46.9%) were completely cured,11 cases(34.3%) were improved and six children(18.8%) showed no change with a general effective rate of 81.2% without any severe operative complication,in which,9 cases(13 sides) had nasal synechia(22.0%),4 cases underwent reoperations. Conclusion:The results show endoscopic sinus surgery is a effective method in the treatment of children with chronic sinusitis or/and nasal polyps. The indication of operation and the handling of the structure of nasal cavity in operation and meticulous postoperative endoscopic care and medication are also the guarantee of treatment effect for optimal long-term results.
