Abstract
Objective: To study the effects of endoscopic nasal sinus surgery for recurrent sinusitis and nasal polyps. Method: 56 cases (112 sides) cases with recurrent sinusitis and nasal polyps were performed with endoscopic nasal sinus surgery. Result: The long term follow up was performed at 3 and 6 months after operation, the results showed that 70 sides were cured (62.5%), 35 sides achieved symptomatic relief (31.2%) and 7 cases remained failure (6.3%). Operative complication included periorbital hematoma (5 sides, 4.5%), adhesion or occlusion of nasal cavity (16 sides, 14.3%) and hemorrhage (2 cases,1.8%). Conclusion: Intimate knowledge of sinus anatomy, careful disposal of middle nasal turbinate and uncinate process and adequate postoperative glucocorticoids are important factors in reducing operative complications and ensuring a good outcome for endoscopic sinus surgery.
