Abstract

Objective To compare the efficacy, side effects and cognitive impairment of risperidone and perphenazine in the treatment of psychiatric symptoms of senile dementia patients.Method 60 senile dementia patients were randomly divided into two groups receiving risperidone and perphenazine respectively for 8 weeks. They were all assessed by CGI,BEHAVE-AD,MMSE and TESS.Results After treatment, the total efficacious rate was 86.67% and 83.33%,showed no significant difference in two groups(P0.05).The scores of BEHAVE-AD were both significantly decreased(P0.01~0.05),there was no significant difference in two groups. After treatment the risperidone group were higher than the perphenazine group in the MMSE scores, the difference was significant(t=2.26,P0.05).There was no significant difference of side effects between two groups (χ 2=0.28,P0.05).Conclusion Risperidone and perphenazine have the same efficacy and side effects to the senile dementia patients, risperidone was not affecting the cognition function, risperidone is more suitable to the senile dementia patients with psychiatric symptoms.
