Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression of cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and their relationship with the clinicopathological characteristics of cervical cancer. Methods The expression of COX-2 and VEGF were examined i mmunohistochemically in 68 cases of cervical cancer and 14 of normal cervix. Results The positive rate of COX-2 and VEGF were significantly different between the cervical carcinoma and normal cervix. The expression of COX-2 in cervical cancer was significantly related to the histological subtypes, the metastasis of lymph node and the differentiation(P0.05);while the expression of VEGF was related to clinical stages, the metastasis of lymph node(P0.05).The expression of VEGF was closely associated with COX-2(P0.01).Conclusions The expression of COX-2 and VEGF are related to the oncogenesis and development of cervical cancer and they may play important roles in the invasion and metastasis of cervical cancer.
