Abstract
Objective:To investigate the relationship between the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and the biological behavior in human cervical carcinoma. Methods: VEGF expression was examined in 78 cervical carcinomas and 25 normal cervical specimens. Results: VEGF expression was significantly higher in cervical carcinomas than that in controls (41.0% vs 8%, P0.01). VEGF was highly expressed in stage IIa or more and those with nodal metastasis compared with in stage Ib or less and those without metastasis (P0.01~0.05). There was a positive correlation between VEGF expression and tumor differentiation. Conclusion: VEGF expression is related to the invasive growth and metastasis of human cervical carcinoma, which plays an important role in the development and progression.
