Abstract

Objective To determine the serum levels of interleukin 6(IL-6) and high mobility group B1 protein(HMGB1) in elderly patients with coronary heart disease(CHD),and to find its clinical significance. Methods Serum interleukin-6(IL-6) and high mobility group B1 protein(HMGB1) were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) in 92 CHD patients(CHD group) and 78 normal subjects(control group) and compared between the two groups. Results The serum levels of IL-6,HMGB1 in subjects of CHD group were significantly higher than those in control group (P0.01).The serum IL-6,HMGB1 levels were compared between AMI,UAP,SAP groups, and the difference was statistically significant (P0.05).The serum levels of IL-6 and HMGB1 increased along with the elevation of the coronary artery pathological change degree. Conclusions There is a relationship between elderly CHD and serum levels of IL-6 or HMGB1.High levels of IL-6,HMGB1 and inflammation play an important role in elderly CHD.
