Abstract
Objective: To compare the effect and safety of the losartan/benazepril therapy combined with hydrochlorothiazide in the treatment of senile hypertension. Methods:A total of 73 patients with mild to moderate hypertension were randomly divided into two groups: One group was treated with losartan 50mg qd and hydrochlorothiazide 12. 5 mg, qd, the other group with benazepril 10mg qd and hydrochlorothialzide 12. 5mg qd, for 4 weeks. Theraputic and side effects were observed. Results: After treated blood pressure decreased significantly (P0. 01) in both groups, but not difference (80. 5%:77. 1%, P 05). The drug related adverse reactions were significantly fewer in losartan group than those in benazepril group(2. 8%:17. 1%,P 0. 05). Conclusion: The anti-hypertensive efficacy of losartan and benazepril respectively combined with hydrochlorothiazide is similar, however the safety and tolerability of the former is better.
