Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the effects and safety of losartan on the blood pressure, left ventricular remodeling and angiotensin Ⅱ in treatment of essential hypertension. Methods: 90 patients were randomly divided into three groups: 30 patients treated with losartan (50~100 mg qd), 30 patients treated with benazepril(10 mg qd), 30 patients treated with combination of losartan and benazepril(50 mg qd and 5 mg qd), all groups were treated for 6 weeks. Results: According to office blood pressure or ambulatory blood pressure measurment the overall efficacy rate of losartan and benazepril was 90% and 86.6% respectively, and combination group was 96.6%. No statistical singnificant difference among the three groups was found( P 0.05). Losartan caused increases in serum angiotensinⅡ; benazepril caused decreases in serum angiotensin Ⅱ( P0.01 vs before treatment). The adverse reaction rate of losartan and benazepril was 12.5% and 23.3% respectively, and the combination group was 13.3%. Benazepril group seems to have higher adverse drug reaction rate( P 0.01). Conclusion:Losartan is effective and safe in treatment of hypertension.
