Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical effects of modifiedErxian Decoctioncombined with antibiotics in treating middle-aged and old women with chronic urinary tract infection(UTI)of kidney-yang insufficiency and residual evil. Methods Fifty-two subjects were randomly divided into two groups,26 cases in each group. For the control group, full doses of sensitive antibiotics guided by the urine culture were given to complete a 14-day course of therapy for bacterial eradication;and during the remission period, small doses of antibiotics were given orally every night for the following 6 weeks. For the treatment group,in addition to antibiotics, modifiedErxian Decoctionwas taken orally twice a day for the following 6 weeks. Both near-future and long-term efficacy and the recurrence rates of UTI were observed. Results After three courses of treatment, the clinical symptoms of treatment group were relieved significantly. There was no significant difference between the two groups in near-future efficacy.During the follow-up,the recurrence rate of treatment group was significantly lower than that of control group. Conclusion ModifiedErxian Decoctioncan significantly alleviate the clinical symptoms and reduce the recurrent infection of UTI.
