Abstract

The paper first expounds upon the major problems in humanism education in the science and engineering colleges in China today:a shallowness in understanding the connotation of humanities,an obscurity in its value orientation,a lack in practicability and expandability while too much emphasis on knowledge inheritability,a lack in unity and harmony while too much variety in content designing,a negation in national spirit and international vision,a monotony in teaching methods and a lack in the integration of educational resources. Then it offers such solutions that the concept, contents and conditions for humanism education in science and engineering colleges should be reshaped;a unified vision of culture should be implemented to construct a sound humanism education system;the functions of the two ethic courses should be further improved and the coverage of Chinese traditional cultures infused;and the education of science and engineering majors be combined with humanity ingredients so as to create a favorable environment of campus culture.
