Clinical research on Atorvastatin for prevention of recurrence of cerebral infarction

Objective To observe the effect of atorvastatin on prevention of the recurrence of cerebral infarction.Methods Totally 76 cases of cerebral infarction in our hospital from 2009 January to 2010 January were divided into the study group and the control group,two groups were given routine treatment,the control group was given aspirin,the study group was given atorvastatin on the basis of the control group,neurological impairment and activity of daily living,carotid artery intima-media thickness(IMT) and improvement of carotid artery plaque area,1 year mortality and recurrence rates and adverse reaction were compared between the two groups.Results The improvement of neural function defect score,activities of daily living,carotid artery intima-media thickness(IMT) and carotid artery plaque area in the study group were better than those in the control group(P0.05).And 1 year mortality,recurrence rate in the study group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P0.05).Conclusion Atorvastatin inhibits cerebral infarction plaque formation,reduce delay,and even reverse the progression of carotid atherosclerosis,preventing the recurrence of cerebral infarction.
