Abstract
Objective To investigate distribution and antibiotic resistance of pathogens causing neonatal septicemia and to provide evidence for reasonable use of antibiotics in clinic. Methods Bact/Alert automated blood culture system was used to culture the blood samples.794 blood samples of newborn with positive results of blood cultures from 2003 to 2005 were identified and their drug-susceptibility tests were done by VITEK-32 automicroscan. Results 177 pathogenic strains were isolated from 794 specimens, and the positive rate was 22.29%.Among them,134 strains were gram-positive bacteria(75.71%),and the coagulase negative staphylococcus was dominant;43 strains were gram-negative bacteria(24.29%),and the Klebsiella pneumoniae was the most frequently isolated. The resistance rate of gram-positive bacteria to Penicillin were the highest, the next were Cefazolin,Oxacilin,Erythromycin and Ampinicillin/sulbactam.E.coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae that produce Extended-spectrum β-lactamases(ESBLs) were both bout 50% of them, and the resistance rate of them to Imipenem,Cefotetan,Ciprofloxacin,Levfloxatin were rather lower. Conclusions Coagulase negative staphylococcus was the primary pathogens causig neonatal septicemia in Shenzhen district,Klebsiella pneumoniae was the next.Drug resistance varies in different bacteria. It was important for reasonable use of antibiotics to know distribution and antibiotic resistance of pathogens.
