Abstract

Objective To investigate the change of plasma visfatin level in obese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods ELISA method was employed to measure the plasma visfatin concentrations of obese 106 patients with T2DM(T2DM group) and 100 normal control subjects(control group),and the levels of the indices of the glucose and lipid metabolism were determined. Results The plasma levels of the visfatin were considerably higher in both the non-obese and obese subgroup in T2DM group than those in the control group(P0.01).In T2DM group, plasma visfatin of obese subgroup was significantly higher than that of the non-obese subgroup(P0.01).The multiple linear regression analysis showed that only waist to hip ratio(WHR)(t=3.412,P0.01) and fasting plasma glucose(FPG)(t=2.245,P0.01) were independently associated with plasma visfatin leve1.Conclusion The change of plasma visfatin level is associated with glucose and lipid metabolism, which may play a role in the pathogenesis of T2DM.
