Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between plasma visfatin level and glucose lipid metabolism in eldly male with type 2diabetic mellitus(T2DM).Methods With ELISA method, plasma visfatin was examined in 61elder patients with T2DM(group A)and 57elder males without T2DM(group B).The body mass index(BMI),height, blood pressure, waist circumference, hip circumference, plasma lipids and fasting glucose were measured. The insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR)and waist-to-hip ratio(WHR)were calculated. Results Plasma visfatin was higher in group A than that in group B[(21.3±5.4)μg/L vs.(14.7±5.2)μg/L](P0.05).Plasma level of visfatin was positively correlated with BMI and WHR(P0.05).Conclusion Plasma levels of visfatin is increased in the elderly with T2DM.The visfatin appears to participate in the development of obesity and impaired islet function.
