Diagnosis of gallbladder carcinoma with US and spiral CT

Abstract

Purpose To evaluate the role of US and spiral CT in diagnosis of gallbladder carcinoma. Methods 42 patients with gallbladder carcinomas proved by operation and pathology were retrospectively analyzed. The two-phase enhanced spiral CT features and US manifestation of gallbladder carcinoma were reviewed. The enhancement pattern of the gallbladder wall were analyzed. Results In 42 before operation cases gallbladder carcinoma, 26 cases were diagnosed by US and 31cases by CT. The pathological resuls were as follow: 40 cases adencarcinoma and 2 cases squamous carcinoma. Conclution US can be considered the chief screening examination of gallbladder carcinoma. Spiral CT appears to be more valuable to estimate the extent of the disease and guide surgical processures.
