Abstract
Ecological footprint, which was a new prevailing method to quantify the stress on natural ecosystem from human activities, was widely used to estimate regional sustainable development. The ecological footprint model was used in this paper. This article calculated and analyzed the ecological footprint of Chengdu in 2003.Chengdu,located in west China, played an important role in the development of west China. The analysis showed that the ecological pressure and density was tremendously high in Chengdu, and pointed out if Chengdu wanted to make more progress,it should depend on the progress of science and technology, improve the capacity of ecosystem.
