Abstract

Objective To investigate the current status of hand hygience rate and hand hygiene compliance rate among medical staff in a tertiary hospital, and explore the strategies to improve hand hygiene compliance rate of medical staff. Methods A self-designed questionnaire was used to single-blindly investigate the hand hygience rate and hand hygiene compliance rate among 236 physicians and 247 nurses in a tertiary hospital on the spot. Results A total of 2 560 hand hygiene indications were involved. The overall hand hygiene rate was 58.16 percent(1 489/2 560),while the hand hygiene compliance rate was 32.50 percent(832/2 560).The subjective and objective attributable rate of hand hygiene compliance was 71.88 percent(1 242/1 728) and 28.13 percent(486/1 728) respectively. Conclusions The hand hygiene compliance rate among medical staff in a tertiary hospital is low,and the main reason is that the medical staff has a deficient recognition for the significance of hand hygiene. The comprehensive measures should be taken to improve the hand hygiene compliance rate among medical staff.
