Abstract

Objective To explore the expression of survivin and caspase-3 in colorectal carcinoma and its relations with tumor cell apoptosis. Methods The immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of survivin and caspase-3 in 66 cases of colorectal cancer tissues and 50 cases of normal tissues. Results Survivin was expressed in 32 of 66 cases(48.5%)of colorectal carcinoma, but not expressed in normal tissues. The expression of survivin was significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis and histological differentiation degree(P0.05).Caspase-3 was expressed in 31 of 66 cases(46.9%)of colorectal carcinoma tissues and in 40 of 50 cases(80.0%)of normal tissues. The expression of caspase-3 in colorectal carcinoma was correlated with the Dukes staging(P0.05).There was correlation between the expression of survivin and caspase-3(P0.05).Conclusion The expression of survivin and caspase-3 protein is closely related with the cell apoptosis in colorectal carcinoma.Survivin and caspase-3 may participate in the cell apoptosis, and play the important roles in the malignance of colorectal cancer.
