Prevalence of Human Papilloma Virus 16/18 in Patients with Breast Cancer

Objective To study the association between prevalence of human papilloma virus 16/18(HPV16/18) and breast cancer.Methods Expression of HPV16/18 was detected by in situ hybridization method in 50 patients with mammary gland hyperplasia and 50 cases with breast cancer,including 25 cases with invasive ductal carcinoma,18 cases with carcinoma simplex and 7 cases with other types.The prevalence of HPV16/18 was compared between the breast cancer group and the mammary gland hyperplasia group,and among subgroups with different histological types of breast cancer.Results The prevalence of HPV16,HPV18,and HPV16 mixed with HPV18 in the breast cancer group was 36.00%,20.00% and 18.00%,significantly different from those in the mammary gland hyperplasia group(8.00%,4.00% and 4.00%,respectively)(P0.05),while indicating no statistical difference among subgroups with invasive ductal carcinoma,carcinoma simplex and other types(P0.05).Conclusions HPV16/18 infection is closely correlated with breast cancer,but it does not have obvious association with the histological types of the cancer.
