Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical significance of serum procalcitonin(PCT) in the diagnosis and treatment of acute attack of bronchial asthma. Methods A total of 82 patients with acute attack of bronchial asthma were divided into two groups, 41 cases in each group, the PCT group were treated with antibiotics according to serum PCT levels of the patients, the control group were decided to use antibiotics therapy according to the guidelines of antibiotics, the clinical efficiency, the rate of antibiotics usage, hospital stay and hospital costs, and the rate of antibiotics usage of patients with different diseases in the PCT group were compared. Followed-up all the patients for 1 month, compared the recurrence rate. Results Compared the treatment efficacy and hospital stay of the patients in the two groups, the difference was not significant(P0.05), the rate of antibiotics usage and hospital costs of the PCT group were lower than that of the control group(P0.05), the difference was significant; The rate of antibiotics usage was compared between the group, the mild and the moderate patients were lower than the severe and the critically ill patients of the PCT group(P0.05), the difference was significant, compared the recurrence rate between the two groups, there was no significant difference(P0.05). Conclusion Serum PCT detection can accurately judge whether there is bacterial infection in patients with acute attack of bronchial asthma or not, and it can guide the use of antibiotics, it has a great significance in the treatment of acute attack of bronchial asthma.
