Abstract
Objective To investigate the significance of serum procalcitonin in guiding rational use of auribiotics among bronchial asthma patients with acute exacerbation. Methods Sixty patients in acute exacerbation of bronchial asthma were randomly assigned into two groups, group A antibiotic treatment group,in accordance with bronchial asthma prevention and treatment guidelines, group B PCT guidance of antibiotic treatment group.Enhanced fluorescence emission was used to monitor serum PCT levels immediately after admission.Hospital stay, clinical effectiveness, cost of the use of antibiotics, antibiotic usage and hospital mortality were obserued in two groups. Results In two groups clinical efficiency, hospital mortality, length of stay and incidence of bronchial asthma with acute exacerbation within 1-month follow-up had no significant difference. In PCT guiding treatment group, antibiotic costs were lower than the conventional treatment group, the difference was statistically significant(P0.05).Conclusion For bronchial asthma patients with acute exacerbation, serum PCT levels have clinical significance in guiding antibiotic rational use.
