The efficacy of Metformin combined with Diane-35 in the treatment of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome:An evaluation of therapeutic efficacy

Objective To investigate the effect of metformin combined with Diane-35 on ovulation induction in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome.Methods Sixty-four patients with polycystic ovary syndrome who were admitted into our department from January 2008 to February 2012 were divided into two groups,observation group(n=32) received metformin combined with Diane-35 for 3 menstrual cycles firstly,and then was given human menopausal gonadotropin-human chorionic gonadotropin(HMG-HCG) for ovulation induction,while control group(n=32) received Diane-35 for 3 menstrual cycles firstly,and then was given HMG-HCG for ovulation induction.Results(1)Before treatment,there were no significantly differences in hormone luteinizing(LH),follicle stimulating hormone(FSH),testosterone(T),Estradiol(E2),fasting insulin(FINS) and body mass index(BMI) between observation group and control group(P0.05).After treatment,the LH,T,FINS,BMI in observation group decreased significantly(P0.05),and FSH,E2 didn't change significantly(P0.05);the LH,T in control group decreased significantly(P0.05),and FSH,E2,FINS,BMI didn't change significantly(P 0.05);the reduction extent of LH and T in observation group were significantly larger than those in control group,respectively(P0.05).(2)The ovulation rate and the pregnancy rate of observation group were significantly higher than those of control group,respectively(P0.05).Conclusion Metformin combined with Diane-35 is able to improve the ovulation induction by HMG-HCG in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome.
