Effects of Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction on the expression of matrix metalloproteianse-9 and tissue metalloproteinase inhibitor-1 in atherosclerotic rats

Abstract
Objective To investgate the effects of Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction on the expression of matrix metalloproteianse-9 and tissue metalloproteinase inhibitor-1 in aorta of atheroselerotic rats.Methods 30 SD rats were randomly divided into the control group model group and Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction group(each n =15),the rats of the control group were given normal diet,that of the model group were given a high fat diet,the rats of Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction group were given a high fat diet and given treatment drugs.After 12 weeks,all rats were killed and expression of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in atheroselerotic plaque were detected by using immunohistochemistry assay.Results The MMP-9 expression decreased significantly(P0.05),and TIMP-1expression increased significantly(P0.05) in the Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction compared with that of the model group.Conclusion The Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction can decrease the expression of MMP-9 and increase the expression of TIMP-1,it can attenuate atherosclerotic development in rats.
