Abstract
Objective To investigate the significance and effects of plasma homocysteine(Hcy) in occurrence and development of ischemic cerebrovascular diseases and the relationship between plasma Hcy levels and condition of patients. Mothods The plasma Hcy levels were measured in patients with brain infarction by automated chemiluminescence system, and compared with healthy controls. Results In the patient groups, the plasma Hcy levels increased significantly(P0.001) as compared with healthy controls. In serious patients, the plasma Hcy levels increased significantly (P0.01,0.01) as compared with middle and slight types. The plasma Hcy levels were significantly higher in the patients with hypertension than in the patients without hypertension(P0.05) .Conclusions Hyperhomocysteinemia may be a new and important risk factor for ischemic cerebrovascular diseases, the plasma Hcy levels were correlated with serious degree of the disease.
