Study on Relation between Plasma Level of Homocysteine and Ischemic Stroke

Objective To study the relation between plasma total homocysteine(Hcy) and ischemic stroke.Methods Ninety-three ischemic stroke patients were enrolled as IS group and ninety-four nor-IS patients as control group.The plasma levels of Hcy were measured in all subjects.The relations between Hcy and diabetes,hypertension,age,sex,blood lipid were analyzed.And their plasma total Hcy levels were measured using high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection.Results(1) There were no relations between Hcy and diabetes,hypertension,age,sex and boold lipid.(2) The level of Hcy in the patients with ischemic stroke was higher than that in the control group.Conclusion Plasma Hcy level is elevated in patients with ischemic stroke.Hyperhomocysteinemia may be an independent risk factor for ischemic stroke.
