Abstract
Applied linguistics refers to the application of the concepts and methods of linguistics to any of various practical problems involving language. This essay has mainly expounded its characteristics of interdiscipline, diversity, changeability, practicality, and experiment-based nature as well as some theoretical models that are established or being established, which functions as the inspiration and instruction in the research of applied linguistics and foreign language teaching.
