Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression of osteopontin(OPN) and Cycloxygenase-2(COX-2) in colon cancer, and to analyze the correlation of OPN and COX-2 with invasion and metastasis of colon cancer. Methods The immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of OPN and COX-2 in 60 cases of colon cancer and 16 cases of adjacent normal tissues. The relationship between expressions of proteins and clinicopathologic factors was evaluated. Results The expression of OPN was 70.0% in cancer tissues. It was significantly higher than that in the adjacent normal tissues(P0.01).The expression of COX-2 was 75.0% in cancer tissues. It was significantly higher than that in the adjacent normal tissues(P0.01).The expression of OPN and COX-2 were associated with tumor stage and lymph node metastasis(P0.05),but not with age, gender and tumor size. The expression of OPN was positively correlated to COX-2.Conclusion Both OPN and COX-2 play important roles in the development of colon cancer, and the joint test of them could be used as indicators of malignancy and prognosis for colon cancer.
