On Free Verse in Western Modern Poetic Theories

Abstract
In the 20th century, there are a lot of debates about the major form of modern poetry, free verse, in western modern poetry theories, concerning whether modern poetry is a poetic revolution, lyrical ego, objectivity, words generating poems somewhat spontaneously, metre, etc. These issues are raised repeatedly and openly, not only with the aim to comprehend free verse, but also to explore ontologically what a poem is and methodologically how to create a poem. This paper attempts to help readers comprehend free verse as well as poetry itself.
