On Lyric and Free Verse in Modern Western Poetry Theories

In the 20th century,there were lots of arguments about the main form of modern poetry,i.e.free verse and lyric in modern western poetry theories,including lyric ego,objective attribution,words generating poem somewhat spontaneously,rhythm and whether the change between modern poetry and the poetry that precedes it is a revolution.These topics are raised not just once but repeatedly and openly.The discussions and controversies aim at not only comprehending free verse and lyric intensively,but also involve understanding ontologically what a poem is and the methodological way of how to create a poem.This paper will be helpful for readers to comprehend free verse and lyric as well as poetry itself.
