Abstract

Objective To study the expression of ICAM-1 in glioma of human brain and its clinical significance.Method The expression of ICAM-1 in 82 samples of glioma was examined by immunohistochemical staining. Results The expression of ICAM-1 in all the 82 samples were positive, and the positive rate was 100%.The control group consisted of 11 samples of brain tissue of cerebral trauma after decompression operation. There was no ICAM-1 expression in all these 11 samples. The intensity of positive expression in highly malignant glioma was much higher than that in low malignant glioma(P0.01).However,there was no significant difference in the expression of ICAM-1 among different pathological types of glioma(P0.05).Conclusion ICAM-1 may play a certain role in the occurrence, development and malignant changes of glioma. It is helpful to grading the malignancy of glioma and judging the prognosis.
