Abstract

AIM To observe the efficacy of Yi-Qi-Jian-Pi(YQJP) therapy on sjogren's syndrome(SS).METHODS Forty SS patients were enrolled. The patients were then randomly assigned into 2 groups:the treatment group(n=20) treated with oral Chinese medicine based on YQJP therapy(Huangqi,Taizishen,Baizhu,Beishashen,Maidong,Wuweizi,Baishao,Gancao,Wumei,Danshen,Jixueteng) and the control group treated with prednisone.RESULTS In the treatment group, the scores of sugar-melting test,saliva-secreting test and Schirmer's test were all significantly decreased as compared with that of before treatment(P0.05).Moreover,the scores of Chinese medicine syndrome in the treatment group were also significantly decreased by the YQJP treatment as compared with that before treatment(P0.01).On the other hand, the scores of Chinese medicine syndrome in the treatment group were significantly deceased as compared with the control group(P0.05).Whereas the results of laboratory tests were significantly improved in both the treatment and control groups(P0.05).The rate of improvement in Chinese medicine syndrome scores were 85% abd 55% in the treatnebt group and control group, respectively. However, there was no statistical difference in the improvement rates between these 2 groups.Total therapeutic effect was 80% and 55% in the treatment and control group, respectively. However, there was no statistical difference in total therapeutic effect between these 2 groups.CONCLUSION The YQJP therapy combined with Zi-Yin-Run-Zao and Yang-Xue-Huo-Xue is effective in reducing symptoms and physical signs as well improving the laboratory test parameters. The therapeutic effect of YQJP is superior than that of prednisone treatment.
