Efficacy of citalopram combined with psychological intervention in treatment of patients with depressive disorder.

Aim To explore the curative effect of citalopram combined with psychological intervention on depressive disorder.Methods Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD)and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA) were used in 62 patients with depressive disorder.They were divided randomly into 2 groups:the study group(n=32) received both citalopram and psychotherapy,while the control group (n=30) only received drug therapy.After 8 weeks,the therapeutic effects were evaluated.Results The total effective rates in study group (90.63%) and control group (70.00%) 8 weeks after treatment were significantly achieved compared to that before treatment (P0.01).The levels of anxiety and depression were reduced.The scores of HAMD and HAMA in the study group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P0.01).The recurrence rate of study group was obvious lower than that of control group at the 6 months of follow-up (χ2=6.87,P0.01).Conclusion Psychological intervention combined with drug therapy is more effective than simple drug therapy in treatment of patients with depressive disorder.
