Abstract
Objective To study the clinical significance of serum cystatin C (Cyst-C) in hypertension. Methods Serum Cyst-C and creatinine (Cr) were determined in 549 patients with hypertension. Results Among 549 hypertension patients, both serum Cyst-C (3.65+1.33mg/L) and Cr (189.72+13.94μmol/L) were elevated in 34 cases (6.19%) 243 cases (44.26%) had elevated serum Cyst-C (2.28±0.81mg/L) but normal Cr (86.63±14.95μmol/L ) and 272 Cases (49.54%) had both normal serum Cyst-C (0.92±0.30mg/L)and Cr(77.14±12.06μmol/L). Conclusion Serum Cyst-C is probably elevated in early stage of renal disfunction and can be used as a more sensitive marker than creatinine.
