Comparative Study of Diclofenac Mucilage and Diclofenac Suppository for Surgical Infection with High Fever

Abstract

Objective To compare their antipyretic effect of diclofenac mucilage(mucilage) and diclofenac suppository(suppository) in the treatment of surgical infection with high fever. Methods Data of 120 patients suffering from surgical infection with high fever were randomly divided into two groups:60 cases in mucilage group(10mL with rectal administration) and 60 cases in suppository group(50mg with rectal administration),and their antipyretic effects were observed. Results The antipyretic effect of mucilage group(with all overall effective rate of 98%)was better than that of suppository group(80%). With P0.01,and their remarkably effective rates were 92%and 57%for the two groups' respectively, with P0.001. Their average body temperature lowered to 36.6℃ and 37.9℃ in two groups,respectively(P0.001) 60 minutes after drug administration. Their antipyretic effect could be sustained for(16.7±3.1)h in the mucilage group, longer than those in the suppository group(10.8±2.3)}h,(P0.001). Conclusion The efficacy of diclofenac mucilage in treating surgical infection with high fever was more satisfactory and superior to that of diclofenac suppository.
