Expression and clinical significance of PCNA and Caspase-3 in gallbladder carcinoma tissues

Objective To explore the expressions of PCNA and Caspase-3 in gallbladder carcinoma tissues and their clinical significance.Methods Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expressions of PCNA and Caspase-3 in paraffin-embedded tissues in 42 cases of gallbladder carcinoma and 10 cases of chronic cholecystitis.A statistical analysis of the expressions of PCNA and Caspase-3 was made,and the relationship between their expressions and the clinical and pathological characteristics were analyzed.Results(1) The positive expression rates of PCNA in gallbladder carcinoma and chronic cholecystitis groups were 64.29% and 30% respectively,which were significantly different between the two groups(P 0.05);The expression rates of Caspase-3 in gallbladder carcinoma and chronic cholecystitis groups were respectively 30.95% and 70%,which were significantly different(P 0.05).(2) In gallbladder carcinoma tissues,the differences on the expressions of gender and age were not statistically significant(P 0.05),but the expressions of PCNA and Caspase-3 were associated with lymph node metastasis,carcinoma tissue differentiation and pathology of TNM stage(P 0.05).(3) The expressions of PCNA and Caspase-3 were negatively correlated(rs=-0.62,P 0.01).Conclusion The expressions of PCNA and Caspase-3 in gallbladder carcinoma tissues are negatively correlated,and both expressions are connected with lymph node metastasis,carcinoma tissue differentiation and pathologic TNM stage,suggesting that PCNA and Caspase-3 are important indicators which reflected biological behaviors of gallbladder carcinoma.
