Study on effect of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation for treating COPD patients with type IIrespiratory failure

Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the effect of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation(NIPPV) in COPD patients with type Ⅱ respiratory failure.Methods:62 COPD patients with type Ⅱrespiratory failure in our hospital from January 2006 to January 2008 were divided into the treatment group and the control group.The control group received conventional therapy,the treatment group received NIPPV on the foundation of control group,and the therapeutic efficacy was analyzed by contrast.Results:The heart rate,respiratory frequency,arterial blood gas in treatment group were improved more obviously than those of control group.The rate of tracheal intubation and rate of death,length of stay in hospital were lower than those in control group,and there were significant differences in two groups(all P0.05).Conclusion:NIPPV is an effective method in the treatment of COPD with type Ⅱrespiratory failure.
