Clinical Study of Noninvasive Positive Pressure Ventilation for Treating COPD Patients with Type II Respiratory Failure

Objective To evaluate the effect of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) on COPD patients with type Ⅱ respiratory failure.Methods Arterial blood gas index (pH,PaO2,PaCO2),course of disease in hospital,rate of endotracheal intubation and mortality of NIPPV group(23 COPD patients with type Ⅱ respiratory failure,treated with NIPPV) were observed,and these index was compared with control group (COPD patients without NIPPV treatment).Results Arterial blood gas index were improved significantly in NIPPV group after treatment.The course of disease in hospital was significantly shorter,and the rate of endotracheal intubation(P0.05~0.01) was significantly lower in NIPPV group than those in control group.Conclusions NIPPV is an effective method in the treatment of acute exacerbations of COPD with type Ⅱ respiratory failure.
