EFFECTS OF DEXAMETHASONE ON TROPISETRON JOAN IN PREVENTION OF POSTOPERATIVE PATIENT-CONTROLLED ANALGESIARELATED NAUSEA AND VOMITING EFFECT

Objective To observe the effects of dexamethasone on the nausea and vomiting caused by patient-controlled intravenous analgesia(PCIA) after being treated with tropisetron.Methods 120 patients undergoing uterectomy were randomly chosen and divided into three groups.All groups received lumbar-epidural anesthesia and postoperative PCIA which was made up of 0.8-1.0mg of fentanyl and 100ml of normal saline.Before the end of the operations,Group A received 10mg of dexamethasone and 2mg of tropisetron,Group B received 2mg of tropisetron and Group C received 2ml of normal saline.The occurrence of nausea and vomiting of the patients were observed.Results The rates of incidence of nausea in Group A.Group B and Group C were 15.0%,32.5% and 52.5%respectively(Ρ0.01).The rate of incidence of vomiting in group A was lower than in Group B and the rate of incidence of vomiting in group B was lower than in Group C(Ρ0.01).No significant difference was found in nausea at Stage III between Group A and Group B.Vomiting in Group A was less serious than in Group C(Ρ0.05) and the rates of incidence of nausea in Group C and Group B were 52.5% and 32.5% respectively(Ρ0.05).Nausea in Group A and Group B was less serious than in Group C(Ρ0.05).Conclusion Dexamethasonecan help to treat the nausea and vomiting caused by PCIA after being treated with tropisetron.
