Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between carotid artery intima-media thickness and non-alcoholic fatty liver(NAFL)in senile patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM). Methods Based on the patients complicated with or without NAFL,96 denile patients with T2DM were divided into fatty liver group and non-fatty liver group. Their body height ( H),weight (W),waist (W),hip (H)were recorded ;the levels of fasting blood glucose (FBG),serum total cholesterol (TC),serum high density lipoprotein (HDL-C),serum low density lipoprotein (LDL-C),serum triglyceride (TG),APOA ,APOB ,fasting serum insulin(FINS)and IMT were determined, body mass index(BMI),the waist to hip ratio (WHR)and insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR)were calculated. Results The levels of BMI,WHR,FINS,HOMA-IR, LDL-C,TG and IMT increased significantly in fatty liver group compared with non-fatty liver group (P0.05),the levels of FBG,TC,APOA and APOB had no statistical significance between two groups (P0.05). Conclusion NAFL in aged T2DM patients had remarkable dyslipidemia, insulin resistance and atherosclerosis.
