Abstract

Objective:To assess the efficacy and safety of ziprasidone in the treatment of schizophrenic with predominantly negative symptoms.Method:68 schizophrenic patients with predominantly negative symptoms were randomly assigned to ziprasidone group(n=34) and risperidone group(n=34) for 8 weeks. The efficacy and side effects were evaluated with positive and negative symptom scale(PANSS) and treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS).Results:There was no significant difference in efficacy between the two groups(67.7% vs 62.5%,P0.05).Both groups had no significant difference in the overall adverse reactions(38.7% vs 43.8%,P0.05).Conclusion:Ziprasidone is effective and safe in treatment of negative symptoms of schizophrenia.
