Abstract
Objective To evaluate the diagnostic significance of simultaneous measurement of 3 tumor markers(CA199,CEA,and β2-MG)in patients with lung cancer. Methods These serum tumor markers were measured in 52 patients with lung cancer by electric chemilluminescent and radioimmunoassay methods, and alterations were evaluated in patients with different stages and different pathohistologic patterns. Results The serum levels of these markers in patients with lung cancer were significantly higher than those of the healthy controls and patients with benign lung diseases. The serum levels of the 2 tumor markers,CA199 and CEA were higher in adenocarcinomas. The serum level of β2-MG was higher in squamous carcinomas.Combination of these tumor markers increased the sensitivity and specificity of diagnosis. The more advanced stage of TNM of lung cancer, the higher levels of these 3 tumor markers as well. Conclusions Combined determination of serum CA199,CEA and β2-MG provides useful information for diagnosing and evaluating the extent and prognosis of lung cancer.
